SB Wilfires is currently usibng ChatGBT to research fire histories dating back as far as possible with a minimum goal of providing information about County wildfires since WWII beginning at minimum with the Refugio Fire in 1955.
Developing comprehensive overviews of the major wildfires that have impacted our communities throughout the County as well as fires in other parts of the state that have impacted all of us.
With a focus on wildfires dating back to 2000 we are working to provide the most inclusive collection of maps of each of the major wildfires, progression mapping and links to resources you might want to investigate.
Check out our collection of wildfire-related wildfires dating back to the Zaca Fire. The galleries provide day-to-day selections of each of the fires as they occur to provide a better understanding of how each evolved.
One of the biggest issues relating to trails in Santa Barbara County is that the trail user population has increased exponentially over the last several decades and as a result maintaining the trails is now beyond the capacity for the managment agencies for the most part.
Responsibility for maintaining them has now become the responsibility of our local non-profit trail organizations for the most part. You can play a role by volunteering on trails days to help with the maintenance or by supporting your favorite organzation by becoming a member of one or more of them or donating badly needed funds.
Trail Partners. Learn more about MTF, the LPFA, Trails Council, Sage Trail Alloiance and others who play a major role in maintaining the trails.
Resource data to come.
Please note: the SB Wildfires website has just been created in the last month (September 2025) and is in the process of being filled out.
Please check out the site. We are looking to have a stabilized version in place by the end of October 2025. In the meantime enjoy what is here and let us know how ot can be improved.
